Maisie and Tom

First wedding of the year alert!

I bloody love Maisie and Tom. You know when you gel with a couple when all of your meetings turn into 3 hour nerd fests, talking about Dungeons & Dragons and Sci fi.

This was a short coverage wedding, so only 4 hours and I love doing these, although I do miss getting my crazy dance floor photos!

It was my first time shooting at the Barns hotel and I had a lovely time. There’s plenty of little pockets of interesting backgrounds and light to shoot in and even a tractor to mess around on, as you’ll see.

Here’s what tom and Maisie had to say about their special day…

How did you meet?:

Maisie first remembers Tom walking past and thinking he was tall and cute Tom first remembers Maisie pressing buttons on a lift for no other reason than to be annoying

Tell me your proposal story:

Florence, Italy

Eating pizza outside in the garden of our hotel room, under the stars. Tom started naming constellations (like on our first date) and loosely edging the conversation towards marriage. I jokingly responded that I proposed first (true) and he responded “but I’m proposing properly” while removing the ring from his pocket.

It was the smoothest thing he’s ever done, and probably will ever do! Of course, I said “what do you think?!”

Why did you choose the venue(s) you chose for your wedding day?:

We wanted small and cosy – and the Barns 100% delivered!

What was it you loved about your outfits and accessories that made you choose them?:

I am too pale and interesting to pull off white, and love gold. The cape was made by my MIL, the pin on it was her mothers, the necklace and earrings were from my parents, the tiny ring from my Papa, who couldn’t be with us, and the bracelet from my SIL! My “something blue” was my Mum.

Tom loves tweed – and loves green, as it is a hopeful colour. The tie was his Grandads, who couldn’t be there, and the Hufflepuff pin was a reminder of our cats.

Tell me about the theme/styling of your wedding:

We wanted everything about the day to reflect us: nerdy, quirky, fun and relaxed – we couldn’t be dealing with chair covers!

What was your first dance and why did you choose it?:

If My Heart Was A House by Owl City has always been our only first dance choice, and neither of us can remember why!

What were the most special/memorable moments of the day for you?

Seeing all of the special people in our lives together was wonderful – even if we did make a lot of them cry with our vows!

Why did you choose Bib & Tucker as your photographer, and what was your experience of your photography on the day?:

I met Dan at a wedding fair with one of my bridesmaids – I looked at his natural, unposed photography style, and knew he would be perfect.

When he met with both of us, we geeked out for 3 hours about photography, films and alcohol.

On the day, Dan was both a charming and relaxed presence, and melted into the background when taking photos. Many of our guests asked if he was a friend first!

What would be your best bit of advice to other couples planning their wedding?:

Relax, and enjoy the occasion. It really doesn’t matter if the tablecloth doesn’t match the napkins, and I guarantee you will not remember! Take everything in, and appreciate everyone for being there

Are you planning on going on a Honeymoon? If so where are you headed?

2 weeks in St. Lucia for a well earned rest!

Could you provide any links to other suppliers that you think are worth a mention?

The Barns Hotel – The Barns were incredible as a venue; flexible, delightful, and couldn’t do enough for us!

Dream Bridal Hair – Gemma was outstanding, and took a bride, 3 bridesmaids and mother of the bride (who all had different hair and styles) in her stride – a calming presence on the morning!
