Natural Wedding Photography

Hey guys! I’m on a blog run, having not posted for some months! My bad.

I’d love for you to check out Sophie and Matt’s Super cool wedding at Aston Marina in Stone, Staffordshire.

There were lots of laughs, special moments, touching speeches and a groom with a tiger face!

Here’s what Sophie and Matt had to say about their special wedding day…

How did you meet?:

..(Tinder)..

Soph..
We played tinder as a drinking game at uni..and then I got a bit addicted (Haha). There was one very persistent boy (Matt) on tinder,  I eventually agreed to meet him for some drinks. I choose a quirky little gin parlour/cocktail bar in Birmingham called the Jekyll and Hyde as our meeting place, as i’d always wanted to go there. I had my housemate on standby just in case i got cat-fished, but was pleasantly surprised when I met him. We ended up staying out pretty late moving from bar to bar, and then more dates followed in quick succession!

Tell me your proposal story:

Its not the most romantic story..
It was the night before my (soph) birthday, we had just fully renovated the kitchen and had cooked our first meal (sausage + mash! Yum!) in our brand new kitchen. I was about to tuck into my sausages, when Matt starting being all cute by mushy by telling me how much he loved me etc.. Next thing I know he’s down on one knee next to me! I cried and said YES!!! We celebrated by going for dinner and cocktails the following day.

Why did you choose the venue(s) you chose for your wedding day?:

We really wanted and chilled and fun wedding where all our family and friends could just relax and have a blast.
When we saw The Boat House at Aston Marina we loved how open and relaxed the venue was. And we loved the idea of everything being in one space rather than having to drive between venues or people having to move from room-room. We also liked the option of getting married outside.
The staff also seemed really friendly and chilled too, which was also very important to us.

What was it you loved about your outfits and accessories that made you choose them?:

Sophie..
I wanted a boho style dress, that was relaxed and comfortable. I fell in love with the geometric back of my dress and loved wearing it on my wedding day!! I especially loved swishing the train (haha) I The necklace I wore was very special to me, as Matt brought it me, it was a little rose-gold heart initial necklace, from my favourite independent jeweller in Brighton (Posh Totty Design). And then my auntie and cousin gave me a beautiful little birthstone gem of my late cousin Jake (to add to my necklace) so he could be with me on my big day.
I wore a floral style hair crown..which I was reluctant to wear! (haha). However, my bridesmaids convinced me to wear it, and i’m so glad they did as I think it made the whole look.
My bouquet was sooo beautiful!! I wanted to keep it forever. Ive attempted to dry it out at home..
Finally, my mum “borrowed” me the rose gold twig bracelet for my “something borrowed”, I loved it and it really went with my boho look. Ive been trying to persuade her to gift it to me..I’ve had no luck so far.
Matt..
Loved the waistcoat and dicky bow to set me apart from my groomsmen.
And no Matt outfit is complete with a pair of trusty RayBans Soph brought me an embroided hanky with the message.. “don’t be f*!? late” as a wedding present. I loved this!
Our wedding Rings- We spent a lovely day making these for each other in the Jewellery quarter. So they hold lots of sentimental value to us (However, I seem to find matts ring all over the house)

Tell me about the theme/styling of your wedding:

We didn’t want anything too faffy or big! And wanted to try and make/do as much of it ourselves so that it was personal to us.
For the table plan and tables we made and printed polaroids of our amazing west coast USA trip and had tables named after a place we visited.
For place names, we made little photo holders from prosecco corks that we’d collected over the past 4 years (it was a hard job drinking all that prosecco, but someone had to do it!) and printed a little polaroid of each person-These we’re a great hit with our guests!!
For favours, we collected empty mini jam jars from a local tearoom and filled them with sloe gin (as a nod to our 1st date) we put cute stickers (which had been personalised by our friend Gemma) on the lids and tied a little label to each jar. Everyone enjoyed making Sloegasams with these!! Yummy!!!
For the centre pieces my uncle sourced the log slices from his tree surgeon friend, and we collected empty gin bottles (as a nod to our 1st date at the gin parlour) from our local pub (The Plough) and from the bar at Aston Marina , as well as empty tins (which we painted dove grey) and empty coconut oil jars. And had these filled these with beautiful flowers from The Flower Room Stone.
The cake- We love going for coffee and cake and afternoon tea, so it only seemed right that we had a cupcake wedding cake. We loved the idea that people could just pick up a cake whenever they wanted to, rather than waiting for a cake to be cut. I also didn’t want to “cut the cake”, so it was win-win all round. We were so pleased with the cakes, they were so yummy and delicious. Kath at Cupcake Yourself is so wonderful! She is more like a friend now!
The Toppers- I was desperate to have my little dog Yogi at the wedding, but couldn’t, so we had him and ourselves made in cake topper form by our very talented friend Gemma Allen (Wildflowerpaperco). I love them so much! and have them on display at home (hehe)

What was your first dance and why did you choose it?:

Arctic Monkeys cover of Drake’s Just hold on we’re going home
We both love the arctic monkeys (Matts all time favourite band) and have seen them live. We also love the song and it reminds us of fun times together! So thought it was the perfect song.

What were the most special/memorable moments of the day for you?

The ceremony. Seeing all our friends and family so happy and excited for us to tie the knot was pretty magical.
The speeches. They had us in stitches!! And although I was cringing at my dads non-traditional “Speech”, I absolutely loved it and thought it was perfectly put for him.
The glitter booth!!!! Soon much fun!!! We love looking at all the little photo strips of our friends and family having a blast covered in glitter and face paint..everywhere (haha)
The dancing the night away with all our friends and family to amazing music.

Why did you choose Bib & Tucker as your photographer, and what was your experience of your photography on the day?:

The website initially drew us in, as Dan’s description was that he was relaxed and natural and that was exactly what we wanted.
We didn’t want us or our friends and family feeling really awkward with cameras protruding at every opportunity.
We actually booked Bib & Tucker before we even met, I just had a feeling Dan would be amazing!
On the day, Dan was amazing! All our friends and family loved him! Everyone commented on how friendly and fun he was and that it didn’t feel like he was a photographer and more like one of the guests who just happens to have a camera with him. We are beyond pleased with all the images from our day- They certainly capture all the fun we had. We couldn’t have wished for a better photographer.

What would be your best bit of advice to other couples planning their wedding?:

Chill, have fun and bask in the magic of your wedding day!

Are you planning on going on a Honeymoon? If so where are you headed?

We spent 2 x weeks in Mexico. We swam, we ate, we drank, we danced, we made friends and we had a blast.
