Abbe & Ben

My first meeting with Abbe and Ben was over skype and after minutes of chatting to them, I totally fell in love. They were so cool, very relaxed and obviously very much in love. All great indicators for a truly beautiful wedding.
The setting was the gorgeous, Ashton Lodge Country house and this coupled together with some misty, winter countryside created a great backdrop to a super special day for Abbe and Ben’s wedding.
Here’s what Abbe and Ben had to say about their wedding day…

How did you meet?:

I first met Ben when I was out at the Dunton Bassett arms. I was eating a bag of mini cheddars when he came over. He asked me if I was eating those and I replied “well I’m not going to inhale them am I!”  He doesn’t even like mini cheddars but still managed to ask me for one. I think he was just trying to find a way to talk to me to be honest haha!! Anyway from then on we met a few time down the pub and eventually he asked me out on a date. We went to Stratford upon Avon. It was an amazing day, lovely and sunny. We went on a boat on the canal and talked which was unusual for Ben! He wasn’t into adult conversations then. Long story short, I went down to Wisbech to meet him with his family. I spent the week with them all and it was like i’d been part of the family forever. We fell in love in Wisbech and it’s something I’ll never forget.

Tell me your proposal story:

Ben asked my father first if he could marry me, this was out of the blue and really unexpected. He didn’t take a second to reply yes! My mum cried, obviously haha! My parents had only met Ben twice before this but they adored him and so did River. He proposed to me at home which was really intimate it was amazing and gave me the most beautiful engagement ring. It was so different and he just knew I would love it.

Why did you choose the venue(s) you chose for your wedding day?:

We chose Ashton lodge country house because it was exclusive. We only wanted our family and friends there with us. The place was absolutely stunning and the staff were incredible. I couldn’t have chose anywhere else.

What was it you loved about your outfits and accessories that made you choose them?:

The dress I chose made me feel like a princess, I felt amazing and that’s why it was the one. Ben chose a suit that was made just for him. Which the tailor who owned the shop called it “wild and wicked” and that was the one for Ben. I chose the bridesmaid dresses to complement me with the colours and also so they looked beautiful. I matched Rivers suit who was our ring bearer with the best men and the ushers. Everyone looked out of this world and it all came together so perfectly.

Tell me about the theme/styling of your wedding:

The theme was vintage but we also incorporated a little bit of game of thrones. Because who doesn’t like game of thrones. The styling of a wedding was single handily done by my beautiful mother in law Sylvia. This woman has an eye for perfection and beauty and we couldn’t of done it with out her. Also my mum and all the other woman and men who helped us create our room I want to thank from the bottom of my heart.

What was your first dance and why did you choose it?:

We chose only you by the platters for our first dance. We chose this song because we went out for a rock and roll night together. We had never danced together before and this song came on. Ben actually got up from his seat and danced with me. That made it so special and something I won’t forget and that’s why we chose that song.

What were the most special/memorable moments of the day for you?

There were a lot of special moments for us that day. The ones for me were when my dad came into the room and started crying when he saw me. When I laid eyes on my husband to be as I walked down the aisle and when my little boy gave us our rings. My little boys face will be the most memorable. He was so happy that i had finally found someone that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I had found someone that loved my son like his own and that made river so happy.

Why did you choose Bib & Tucker as your photographer, and what was your experience of your photography on the day?:

We chose bib and tucker because he came well recommend from my sister in law. She knows a lot of photographer but she only mentioned dan. Dan was more than we could have imagined him to be. He was lovely, funny, kind, amazingly talented and just made us feel at ease all day. We had countless laughs from beginning to end with him. He was like part of the family and we can’t thank him enough for everything he did.

What would be your best bit of advice to other couples planning their wedding?:

Don’t take loads of time planning, the best weddings are planned within 2 months! I would advise any couple to have Dan as their photographer and to just enjoy ever single moment. It goes so quickly.

Are you planning on going on a Honeymoon? If so where are you headed?

We went to Austria for our honeymoon. It was only for a week but we took river with us and we had a lovely time. We are hoping to go away just us two sometime in the near future.
