Sabrina & Jake’s Wedding – Alcumlow Wedding Barn
I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Sabrina & Jake’s wedding recently. I had a blast getting to know this wonderful couple of individuals (and their massive dog, Winston!). They are totally my kind of people, super chilled, funny, happy and fellow admirers of all things four legged!
Here’s what they had to say about their wedding day with some rad pictures…
How did you meet?:
We both started work at the same place on the same day, we only waved at each other and spoke now and again for the first 6 months of meeting, and then one day knowing sweets are the key to Sabrina’s heart, Jake offered her a lemon sherbet, then that evening asked her on a date.
Tell me your proposal story:
In Italy with Sabrina’s family visiting relatives, Jake knew it would be somewhere which was meaningful and also would be a place we could always return to and share more happy memories there.
The pressure was on to find the right moment, however things kept going wrong such as Sabrina’s parents forgetting to bring the ring out with them! eventually, Jake took Sabrina’s on a walk to an olive tree garden and popped the question there.
Why did you choose the venue(s) you chose for your wedding day?:
We wanted something that fell in line with our style of country themed, rustic and relaxed.
Alcumlow Farm was the perfect venue for us as it was a converted barn, already beautifully decorated, we didn’t really need to add anything ourselves to it. It has a Snugburys on site, a playground and a lovely outside area. We were drew in from the moment we saw it It was also down the road from St Marys Church, a place that Jake had always admired and therefore fitted in perfectly with the day.
What was it you loved about your outfits and accessories that made you choose them?:
Once I tried on my dress which was by the designer Sottero and Midgely we knew it was the right one but it definitely wasn’t the style I thought I would have!
My favourite part of the outfit was the floral crown which I knew I wanted for a long time, it made the overall look feel more like myself and not too glammed up.
The suits were from Marc Darcy, Jake always knew he wanted Tweed and pretty much clocked his suit early on. The choice for mustard knitted ties was a last minute addition after trying my dads tie on with the suits, and they happened to all tie in perfectly with the sunflowers in the wedding flowers.
Tell me about the theme/styling of your wedding:
We didn’t have a style or particular theme, we wanted to make sure that that wedding felt like ‘us’. The things that we like and little things we could insert into the day to feel personal to us.
As we had chosen the rustic venue, we kept with the country theme with the flower choices and suits. We made a lot of the little details ourselves at home such as the table numbers, favours, order of services and place settings. We had a Great Wedding Bake Off competition so that we had some fun with the day, we had family members bake a cake to win a chocolate medal and star baker apron!
What was your first dance and why did you choose it?:
Our first dance was Only You by Yazoo, which is one of our favorite songs, we were a bit worried about the attention on us for a first dance so wanted something slightly upbeat, and we do love a bit of 80’s!
What were the most special/memorable moments of the day for you?
Being in church for the wedding was the main highlight, we were so excited and seeing all our family sat there was a lovely experience.
Second to that was our dog Winston turning up for a visit!
Why did you choose Bib & Tucker as your photographer, and what was your experience of your photography on the day?:
Dan was our absolute first choice for a photographer. We had been searching for a while for the right person and then came across Dan, his unique, relaxed and natural pictures really appealed to our style and after meeting him we knew straight away he was the perfect choice. He was so friendly and totally understood what we had in mind when it came to capturing our day.
We didn’t want anything too posed or stereotypical wedding photos. Dan’s ideas are amazing and we felt so comfortable with him straight away.
During the day he was great, we barely noticed him weaving around the guests snapping pictures, however he managed to capture the best moments of the day. Every picture shows such a special moment and everyone looks happy and laughing.
We have had so many comments on the pictures and we would recommend Dan to anyone.
What would be your best bit of advice to other couples planning their wedding?:
Don’t stress the small details, it won’t matter on the day. Anything that might go wrong, people won’t notice and in the grand scheme of things it wont matter as you will be so excited and happy!
You can’t control the weather so try to make the most of it, I spent a long time watching the forecast worrying that rain was forecast, we did have some in the morning but it cleared up by the time our wedding started – however we decided to be prepared to make the most of the rain if it came, we bought some nice umbrellas and i got my wellies at the ready just in case! just have fun! your hair might fall out, you dress might get dirty – it doesn’t matter. The day is about you two and celebrating with those closest to you, enjoy it.
Are you planning on going on a Honeymoon? If so where are you headed?
We went to America for our honeymoon. We did a 3 week road trip of New England and then took an internal flight to the deep south, we covered 8 states in total in a Mustang and had the time of our lives
Could you provide any links to other suppliers that you think are worth a mention?
Parsley and Sage florists did such a good job with the flowers, buttonholes and hair pieces for us all. I only had to describe briefly what I had in mind and what they created was spot on.
Vintage Venue Dressing put the blossom trees as our table centres, they came and set these up for us the day before the wedding and they looked wonderful, we had a lot of comments on these and that they really made the room, we are so glad we went with them.
we hired the Penkhull Ukulele band to play for the drinks reception, we had seen them play a few times as Sabrina’s dad and Jake work with one of the band members and we knew that they would fit in so well with the rustic theme and be something that everyone would enjoy. They didn’t disappoint and did such a good job on the day, including a special song for us which they played last.
